Meet Charlie de Bruto
Charlie de Bruto (b. 2005) is a Pretoria-based visual artist working primarily in etching, oil painting and charcoal.
Her practice explores human behaviour, morality, memory and the psychological traces people leave on one another, particularly the darker complexities of the human condition.
Through portraiture, line and physically demanding processes, she examines harmful actions and their lasting impact without offering definitive answers, encouraging viewers to question the stories and behaviours surrounding them.
Her work has been exhibited at Terra Contemporary Gallery, Gallery 2-1 and Alliance Française. In 2026, she participated in the Cape Town Print Fair with The Viewing Room Gallery and received a Merit Award in the Sasol New Signatures Art Competition.
