Meet Bokang Mankoe

Bokang Mankoe, born in 1992 in Tembisa, Johannesburg, is a printmaker exploring masculinity, identity, loss and legacy.

He studied printmaking at Artist Proof Studio, receiving the Thami Mnyele Art on Paper Merit Award in 2013.

He was a finalist in the SA Taxi Art Award (2016) and a top 100 finalist in the Thami Mnyele Art Competition (2016 and 2018). His work has featured at the Turbine Art Fair, through the Fresh Produce Mentorship Programme and in international group exhibitions.

Inspired by paternal absence, his practice explores the ideal of the "Perfect Man," using the Golden Ratio, white light, embossing, handmade paper and layered printmaking to examine masculinity, strength, vulnerability and responsibility. Since 2022, he has coordinated the Professional Printing Workshop at Artist Proof Studio.
