Raised in Tehran, Iran, and descending from a long line of merchants, Shervin’s interest in handmade carpets, textiles and arts grew from a young age. As a young adult he fulfilled his desire to intimately know all the carpets, textiles and arts made in Iran and later from around the world.
The eternal scholar, he has built his library of knowledge on the traditions, beliefs and methods behind making these items and now serves as consultant to those wanting to purchase rare, antique and old carpets, textiles and arts and evaluate their existing antiques.
The Ghorbany Collection at Ghorbany Benmore includes antique rugs, tapestries and textile artifacts of different origins from around the world. This Collection was created by Shervin Ghorbany over many years based on the age, rarity and aesthetic of each item and is constantly expanded on through new and exciting purchases. These museum-quality items are surviving treasures from bygone mighty civilizations that will be loved by all textile art lovers, scholars and collectors.It includes textile fragments from circa 500AD and handwoven rugs from circa 17th Century.
Ghorbany Benmore also sells and buys antique furniture and decor items dating back from the mid-20th Century to decades and centuries earlier.
The greatest quality of a handmade carpet is it’s longevity. This means that most handmade carpets (if cared for) will become antiques.
A carpet becomes an antique when it reaches the age of 100 years. At present this means all carpets manufactured in 1920 and prior.
The value of these antiques is determined by its condition, its provenance and its rarity.
